Not only that, but they’re having their own housing issues, too. Yes, it turns out that being a celebrity doesn’t make you immune for planning issues or the downturns of the property market. Read on to discover how the stars have been faring in London’s property market.

Not so wonderwall?

Hampstead, NW3

Sympathy has to go out to Noel Gallagher. It seems his Maida Vale house is sticking. In a recent interview, the former Oasis singer reached out to oligarchs looking to buy in North London as he wants to upgrade and can’t find a buyer for his Little Venice house, one of four he owns around the world. He bought the stucco-fronted property for £8 million in 2010 but has since made a number of improvements. The property which overlooks Regents Canal, has five bedrooms with a separate one-bedroom annexe at the bottom of the garden, and is on the market for £11.5 million. Noel, perhaps you could consider letting it through Benham & Reeves Estate Agents, instead? The Sherlock star is locked in a planning battle with his neighbours over his proposal to build a plant room at his £3 million house. As part of a huge renovation that will see the construction of a new rear extension and a further extension under the front garden, the old Harrovian wants to create a plant room to house a water tank and boiler. Neighbours are concerned about the noise, though, so the actor is currently having to negotiate with Camden council over an “acoustic report” to assess whether or not the noise generated could be heard by neighbours. Benedict, we feel your pain. Until the work’s complete, how about renting this three bedroom apartment in St John’s Wood.

Princely digs in Denmark Street

Mayfair, W1

Although the area around Tottenham Court Road is being redeveloped as part of the Crossrail/Elizabeth Line project, a little piece of London has been saved. Two buildings in Denmark Street, also known as Tin Pan Alley have been saved from the wrecking ball after they were given Grade II listed status by Historic England. Names such as the Sex Pistols, the Rolling Stones and David Bowie all recorded at the former studios. Understandably, protesters were concerned that a bit of the area’s spirit was being lost as part of the redevelopment of the area. Although the area is certainly going upmarket, we have some beautiful apartments that are only a short stroll away, here is one of them.

Move like Jagger

Cheyne Walk has been the home of many famous names including Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithful, Sean Connery and even JMW Turner over the years. You wouldn’t think there’d be much scope for a new build along this street that overlooks the River Thames and is dotted with Georgian and early Victorian mansions but a RIBA award-winning architect has managed to build a strikingly modern home on the historic street. The Chelsea home is yours for just £5 million and features an L-shaped sitting room and floor-to-ceiling windows to take in those river views. If it’s not quite right for you, we have this two bedroom apartment in the King’s Chelsea development.

Not a home for tramps

St John’s Wood, NW8

The former home of nightclub impresario Johnny Gold, owner of Jermyn Street nightclub, Tramp – is up for sale in St John’s Wood.
