Celebrity moves – January 2017

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

As the new year begins, the property market suddenly awakens from its winter slumber.  People, especially celebrities, start thinking it’s time to make a new start.  Unsurprisingly, a number of properties are for sale by ‘slebs and the calls are coming in from their ’people’ enquiring about new properties.  Here we give a round-up of what famous names are on the move this month.

Who knew it would be so profitable?

If you’re over the age of 30, just look away now because YouTube stars Jim Chapman and Tanya Burr have just splashed out on a £2 million home in the capital  The married couple have made a small fortune thanks to advertising deals on their respective YouTube channels and selling a variety of products to their tweenage fans.  Team Internet, as they are often dubbed, have nearly 6.7 million subscribers between the two of them and frequently film segments in the 1,700 square foot house, featuring  four bedrooms and three bathrooms.  Plans are afoot to redecorate the property which Jim describes as “white” and “bare”.  If the couple are seeking a similar house while the works are completed, we have this four bedroom property in Hampstead that features plenty of natural light.  Perfect for filming!

Fit for a McQueen

Shortly before his untimely death in 2010, Alexander McQueen bought a flat in Mayfair’s Dunraven Street that he planned to refurbish and make his own.  A developer has now bought the maisonette and realised some of McQueen’s plans including the installation of a spiral staircase, a bespoke Clive Christian kitchen and the creation of two plush bedroom suites.  As a homage to its former owner, the property also features a “fashion catwalk” lined with mirrors and images from Alexander McQueen’s most famous shows.  The beautifully refurbished property is now on the market for £8.5 million.  If you, too, have aspirations of joining the fashion set, we have this stunning property just around the corner in Berkeley Street.

One for the bad boys

If you remember the eighties you were probably a fan of Duran Duran.  Go on, admit it.  Fans can now acquire the ultimate bit of memorabilia by snapping up guitarist Andy Taylor’s former flat in Wandsworth.  The four bedroom flat in a gothic pile was Taylor’s home at the height of his fame, having lived there until he upped sticks and moved to Los Angeles in the mid 1980s.  It’s now on the market for £1.75 million.  If that’s a bit beyond your budget, you can still live like a rock star in this nearby apartment in Nine Elms.

Kensington
Kensington, W8

Treading the floorboards

Those of you of an artistic bent might remember Kensington’s Michael MacOwan Theatre which served the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts when it was located in Cromwell Road. LAMDA has now moved to Hammersmith and its former theatre, a hotbed of talent including Benedict Cumberbatch, Anna Chancellor and Chiwetel Ejiofor, is now being converted into luxury flats.  If you can’t wait, we have this offering just around the corner.

Happy in Hampstead

Blood, guts and backstabbing may be the order of the day in the popular television show Game of Thrones but its star Emilia Clarke has chosen to buy a property in the rather more sedate London village of Hampstead.  The actress has reportedly paid more then £8 million for the six bedroom house near Hampstead Heath which has a range of top security features to keep her away from rather insistent fans.  If you’re hoping to bump into her on the high street, we have this sophisticated property nearby.
