August Celebrity Moves

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Oh what a difference a month makes. One minute we’re sitting there looking forward to our summer holidays; the next minute the country is reeling from the referendum vote and we’re all wondering what this means. At least the rental market is still going strong even if the rest of the economy is less certain. Wealthy celebrities rarely have to worry about such trivial matters. Most of them earn in currencies other than pounds and have so much cash to splash, they just shrug it off. Lucky them, eh? We suggest you shrug it off, too, grab a pina collada and head for the sun loungers.

Row, row your boat

When you live by the river, what better way to enjoy it than with a boat?  George and Amal Clooney have done exactly that, reportedly purchasing a £10,000 row boat so they can travel down the Thames in relative privacy.  It will be moored near their five and a half acre property in Sonning which they bought soon after they married two years ago.  We have some riverside properties, too, with nearby leisure moorings.  One of our favourites is this impressive property in Fulham.

Golden halls

David and Victoria Beckham bought their Holland Park villa three years ago for £31.5 million and are only now moving in. Needless to say, they have spent a small fortune transforming the house. Originally they had friend and beige enthusiast Kelly Hoppen overseeing the project but then opted for Rose Uniacke, another society favourite.  Hmm, bet that caused a few ructions.  The new place has seven bedrooms, a wine cellar, cinema room and beauty area.  If you fancy your own rental apartment complete with all the same benefits on-site at a fraction of the cost Victoria and David Beckham spent, take a look at this property.

She moves in mysterious ways

Property developers come in all shapes and sizes. Perhaps one of the most unlikely developers in London is none other than Gillian Anderson of X Files fame. Since moving back to the UK over a decade ago, the British born actress who will soon appear in the third series of the BBC detective drama The Fall, has renovated over 13 different homes. She is now selling her most recent abode, a six-bedroom Georgian house in Clerkenwell that she renovated herself. We have an offering that’s equally stylish nearby.

It’s elementary

We wonder if he used some rather clever detective work or if it was all rather elementary.  Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter are putting down roots in the area now that they’ve welcomed their baby son, Christopher.  The actor finally gained permission to add a lower ground floor extension and boiler room to his home in Camden. As we reported recently, his plans were met with furious objections from neighbours but he’s now gained permission from Camden council and looks set to make the area his long term home.  If you are looking to rent a property or if you have a property to let in Dartmouth Park, call our Highgate branch. Or if you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes and like the idea of living where he did on Baker Street, take a look at this affordable 1 bed apartment.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spies

Veteran actor Gary Oldman bought a beautiful Edwardian detached house in Barnes shortly after he married his former wife Lesley Manville.  The gorgeous five bedroom house overlooks the Thames and measures over 3,000 square feet. Unfortunately the couple broke up when Oldman and Manville’s baby was only three months old.  He later married Uma Thurman in what was regarded as a rather unlikely match.  We’re sorry to report that that marriage didn’t last, either. Oldman’s former marital home is now for sale for £3.25m but if your budget isn’t so grand, we still have this lovely apartment in Brentford, another leafy suburb not far away from Barnes.
